On 19 September, Åland Post issues its first textile stamp. The embroidered stamp is part of an international peace project uniting postal services from all over the world in a common message of peace and unity. “The Dove of Peace stamp is a strong symbol of hope and unity, embodying the shared dream of a better world – one stitch at a time. Participating in this international stamp project, Åland Post and our postal network stand for world peace. With the stamp, we join forces in spreading the message,” says Johanna Finne, design manager at Åland Post Stamps.
The Dove of Peace stamp project is an international initiative by Philatelie Liechtenstein and Hämmerle & Vogel. Together with ten other postal administrations, Åland Post is participating in the project consisting of a unique stamp issue, the joint motif of which is a dove with an olive branch in its beak. The universal peace symbol adorns the self-adhesive commemorative stamps issued simultaneously by all participating postal administrations. Only the country name and denomination distinguish the issues.
In a time of uncertainty and conflict, the theme of peace and reconciliation is more important than ever. Like a flying dove, the stamp transcends borders, spreading a powerful message of love, tolerance, and humanity.
The unique textile material of the peace stamp provides a three-dimensional and tactile feel, making it different from traditional stamps. Austrian textile company Hämmerle & Vogel designed and produced the embroidered stamp
