The Winning Stamp
This year the SEPAC 2025 entry from Malta received the most votes making it the most beautiful stamp of the year.
The Maltese entry for 2025 was accompanied by an additional two values, making it a set of three stamps intrinsically linked to the religious traditions of the islands of Malta and Gozo. Inkeeping with the SEPAC theme of 'architecture' for 2025 these three building were chosen as notable buildings which tell the story of the archipielago through all of its influences, from the Phoenician period to the Roman period, the more recent British period and everything in between. The buildings features were as follows:
The €0.45 value: The Church of Saint Catherine of Italy, Valletta
This is a small, yet elegant Baroque church built in the 16th century to serve the Italian Knights of the Order of St. John. With both historic significance and refined architectural details, the Church of Saint Catherine of Italy is a notable landmark in Malta's capital.
The €1.50 value: Mdina Cathedral Museum, Mdina
This magnificent baroque building was constructed in the early 18th Century as a seminary under the patronage of Bishop Paul Alpheran de Bussan. The façade is adorned with decorative pilasters and an ornate balcony with such refined craftsmanship that it has become a prominent feature within the architectural landscape of the old capital of Malta, Mdina.
The €1.91 value: Parish Church of Ghajnsielem, Gozo
Located on the smaller island of Gozo the Parish Church of Ghajnsielem is dedicated to the Lady of Loreto. The construction of this Neo-Gothic structure, which is a standout landmark in the village, began in the early 20th Century and spanned several decades resulting in a great work of both spiritual devotion and architectural ambition. This particular value was the one chosen to bear the SEPAC logo, making it the winner of the Most Beautiful Stamp competition.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to vote in our competition and congratulations to the winners. We look forward to seeing you again at the end of the year when we open the SEPAC Stamp Competition 2026/2027.
