About SEPAC - Iconic Landmarks

With the issue “SEPAC – Iconic landmarks,” Liechtenstein will once again participate in the joint issue of Europe's smallest postal services in 2026. The chosen motif represents a pivotal moment in the country's history: the “Oath site Bendern” (face value CHF 1.90) is a site of great national significance.

On March 16, 1699, the population of the former dominion of Schellenberg paid homage to their new sovereign, Prince Johann Adam An- dreas von Liechtenstein, on the church hill in Bendern. This oath of allegiance marked the beginning of the political development that led to

the creation of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The current memorial site was designed be- tween 1978 and 1980. It consists of a com- memorative plaque in the rock face below the rectory and a fountain designed by the artist Georg Malin. The round shape of the square is reminiscent of the circle as the original form of assembly. The five-part fountain crown symbol- izes the five municipalities of the “Unterland” region or the former Schellenberg domain. The special stamp is produced using the steel en- graving process and is also available in color and black print.
