About Definitive Series - His Majesty the King’s Portrait

This year Tusass Greenland is launching the second stamp in the new definitive series, which was intro- duced in 2025. The design is a portrait of His Majesty King Frederik X, made by the renowned Norwegian artist and engraver Martin Mörck from a photograph by Steen Brogaard.

The stamp is denominated at DKK 25.00, which corresponds to the postage rate for a letter up to 20 grams sent domestically in Greenland. Consequently, the stamp will become a natural part of daily postal delivery and a design that inhabitants and collectors alike will encounter for many years to come.

The new definitive series has been created with a long-term perspective. The series is planned to be continuously expanded with new denominations as the need arises. Moreover, the stamps will be issued in different colours, giving the series a clear and rec- ognisable expression, while supporting the practical postal functions.

The portrait of King Frederik X continues the classic tradition of depicting royalty images on definitive series stamps. The combination of Steen Brogaard’s photography and Martin Mörck’s precise engraving work creates a timeless and dignified portrait befitting the series’ role as an enduring element in Greenland’s postal history.

The Regent and Greenland

King Frederik X has maintained a close affiliation with Greenland throughout his life. It took on a greater and deeper dimension when he, together with good friends, completed the Expedition Sirius 2000 more than a quarter of a century ago. As Crown Prince, he visited the country several times and has shown great interest in Greenland’s nature, culture and people. As King, he continues the close bond between Greenland and the Royal House.

About the artist
The Norwegian artist and engraver Martin Mörck is among the most significant stamp artists in Green- land’s philatelic history. Over several decades, he has created a large number of Greenlandic stamps and is the artist who has created the second most stamps for Greenland, only surpassed by the legendary Jens Rosing. Martin’s works are renowned for their high degree of craftsmanship, fine detailing and confident interpretation of the designs, which has made him one of the most valued stamp artists in the world.
