A race for young and old alike
The Vollekslaf Walfer (Walferdange public run) is one of Luxembourg’s best-known running events. Its origins can be traced back to 28 September 1975 and the first Grand Prix de la Vallée de l’Alzette in Lorentzweiler, when 165 runners crossed the finish line. In 1978, the non-profit association Vollekslaf Walfer was founded and the race was organised in Walferdange for the first time. The event enjoyed steady growth in the years that followed: more than 1,000 runners took part in 1982, while 2,509 runners crossed the line to set a new participation record in 1984, the same year the Vollekslaf became the first race in Luxembourg to introduce electronic timekeeping.
