2025Magical Island - Set

Illustrator Amanda Chanfreau’s magically imaginative stamp motif explores the relationship between above and below the surface of water.

Illustrator and tattoo artist Amanda Chanfreau grew up in Mariehamn on Åland. Today, she lives in Malmö, Sweden, where she is part-owner of the Malört tattoo studio. Amanda currently focuses on children's book illustrations, a type of assignment that took off after the success of her debut book “Giraffe island” issued in 2022, which she created together with her sister Sofia.

With Åland Post’s “Open Edition” stamp series, selected artists are given free rein to create unique stamps. This is the third issue in the stamp series which was launched in 2023. Art photographer Christoffer Relander was first out with the issue Bark boat in a jar, which was followed by visual artist Carolina Sundelin’s stamp art On the islet in 2024.

The denomination of the stamp Lokalpost (local postage) indicates a specific franking value when you use it to frank letters or cards. The value corresponds to the current postage tariff for a mail item up to fifty grams sent by priority mail within Åland.
